Global Warming Alarmists are Insignificant (in the Big Picture)

We often work ourselves into frenzies over political issues such as global warming. The Chicken Little’s of the world are screaming the sky is falling because of SUVs, light bulbs, and ultimately - YOU. The cry is that WE are the problem. Consider Al Gore’s statement in an Inconvenient Truth:

We are dumping so much carbon dioxide into the Earth’s environment that we have literally changed the relationship between the Earth and the Sun.

Note the use of the word WE. The problem with Al Gore and every other alarmist out there is a question of perspective. WE - humans - are truly insignificant in the big scheme of things.

Consider the earth as compared to other planets (click on pictures for closer view):

Now consider the earth as compared to Jupiter:

Next, mull over the earth as measured up to the sun for a REAL perspective on what causes global warming:

But let’s not stop here. Reflect on the sun as compared to Arcturus:

Finally, compare the sun to Antares. The sun is only one pixel in size compared to Antares:

Remember the earth? Consider yourself on this earth and your SUV or light bulb. Are we truly so egotistical as to think we are anything but an insignificant speck in the big scheme or things? Do you really believe your light bulb and SUV are of greater importance than the sun (or Antares which, incidentally, is only the 15th largest sun). So, the next time somebody comes to you sanctimoniously preaching that YOU are the problem, you will know THEY are insignificant.

This is the kind of ignorant banter that keeps us from doing the things we need to concentrate on the issue and stop it. I cannot comprehend why one would refute Global Warming as if it were some sort of rivaling religion. There are facts as plain as day supporting it.

Your article has no point and no merit what-so-ever.

As far as I can tell you are claiming that global warming is not an important issue, because the earth is small compared to other stars that are millions of light years away?

What?! That doesn’t even begin to make sense.

This is like advocating against modern medicine, claiming that bacteria and viruses can’t be the problem. They’re just too damn small!

    Idiot.

Addam, based on your summary, I believe you may have missed the author’s point. Orlando did not infer that we as humans have no responsibility for taking care of our environment. He simply attempted to put what many of us feel is politically-motivated propoganda into its proper persective.

You are correct. Global warming is real. (So is global cooling, which we will experience again in a few years. You see, some of us are old enough to remember when the “scientists” of the world were trying to convince us that we were headed for another ice age.) But human beings currently don’t have the power couldn’t change these cycles if we wanted to.

Do we need to take care of our natural resources, like the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the ground we grow our food in? Of course!

But we also need to be smart enough to recognize when we, as taxpayers, are being duped. Globalists are trying to use the passion and fervor of those who have legitimate concerns about the environment to push their left-wing socialist/communist agendas. And we can’t let them get away with it.
