This is a lesson on how to get buried** on Digg.com’s political section. Here is how Digg explains the bury policy: “The number of reports required to bury is based on a sliding scale that takes several factors into consideration.” Factors, sliding scales, what? How can anybody wishing to earn the right of “buried on Digg” make sense of this vague generality.

That is why I’m here to help enlighten the “sliding scale” and “factors” associated with Digg. First, a “bury” is a powerful tool given to registered users but used primarily by a select few known affectionately as the “Bury Brigade.” This brigade loves burying articles–specific types of articles. So, you want these guys on your side in order to achieve oblivion. Now, a “bury” on Digg.com accounts for roughly minus 5 diggs depending on how the algorithm is tweaked. For example, if you have a story that has 20 diggs but got 4 buries, you have a net zero gain or lower.

So, as a public service, I’d like to explain how you can get buried on Digg and achieve “zeroness” or lower:

  1. Make sure to post Conservative articles. This will guarantee any article that might have a chance at the front page is buried once it hits a potential front page number. Especially noteworthy for coffin status are articles by Michelle Malkin, Debbie Schluessel, Rush Limbaugh, or other high visibility Conservative authors.
  2. Insure you submit a LittleGreenFootballs.com article. That is an automatic bury.
  3. Make sure to submit articles that criticize Digg.com or anybody associated with Digg.com. Articles that dare to attack the integrity of Digg.com are slam-dunk burials with sugar on top!
  4. Be sure to highlight the positive aspects of Christianity and the love of God. Any positive spiritual suggestion is a magnet for crucifixion on Digg.
  5. Post anti-marijuana stories. Diggers love pot smoking or legalization of pot stories. Post a factual article about the negative effects of marijuana and kaboom–you’ll be six feet under before you can say “bong me baby.”

Now, there are numerous other ways to achieve the coveted burial status at Digg but these five will get you started. Good luck on your endeavors to reach mummification at Digg.

**Quick overview to the language of “burying” on Digg.com: Digg is a social news site that allows readers to submit articles that can be “dugg up” to the popular section where more readers will see the article. Digg has an icon by every story that allows you to bury the article as “OK, This is Lame,” “Spam,” “Inaccurate,” “Wrong Topic,” or “Duplicate Story.” If you get your story marked as buried it basically ceases to exist. It dies.
