sitrep1.JPG Aftervote is a social search engine which has, “a passive voting system in place. Today, everyone is familiar with sites like Digg and Shoutwire. These sites let the users decide what is a good story, and what’s not. We are applying this same principle to search results without having to go through all that work of clicking buttons to vote for a site’s ‘coolness’.”

It was chosen as alternative search engine of the month by ReadWriteWeb, which touted the sites ability to let the researcher choose a comfort level when selecting beginniner, intermediate or advanced level features.

Aftervote displays the rankings of a search result from the five major search engines, and allows it’s members to vote on results, as well as eliminate certain sites from their own future searches. It has a downloadable toolbar which works similarly to Stumbleupon in that the engine learns your likes and dislikes over time, giving you better and more personalized results over time. Very interesting concept.
