Hey Atheists, Can You Spare A Minute of Silence?

stopwatch David Croft, an avowed atheist, is suing the State of Texas over their law to allow a minute of silence in schools.  The minute of silence can be used in schools for prayer, reflection, or nothing.  One minute.  Hey atheists, can’t you spare a minute of silence?

 UPI describes Crofts concerns:

“Moment of silence bills have been popping up in additional states,” Croft said in his blog. “To have millions of public school children waste a minute of education each day for a practice that has no secular purpose seems to me like a great sin.”  Croft has been battling the schools for years over perceived religious intrusions, including the singing of religious Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs at school concerts.

There are 1,440 minutes in a day.  Is one minute spent in reflection or prayer worth suing over.  We are talking about .0007 of a day.  Personally, I don’t see any problem with a minute of silence.  It allows those of faith to pray and atheists time to reflect.  It is a win-win situation–except to atheists like David Croft.
