Spock, according to its creators, is “the online leader in personal search, helping users find and discover people. With over one hundred million people already indexed and millions added every day, Spock is building the broadest and deepest people specific search engine.”

Online Media Weekly reports, “Since its commercial launch two weeks ago, a reported 2 million unique visitors have checked out Spock, the vertical search engine aimed at indexing ‘everyone in the world’.”

Spock searches websites as well as social networking sites, and combines search engine technology with user-driven content, to produce a new kind of search engine. We’ve tried it out, and it’s not quite ready to compete with Google or Yahoo, yet, but it is an interesting concept. Users can update their own profiles and search criteria, to improve their own and others’ search results. Check it out.
