Why Alberto Gonzales Resigned

Democrats are patting themselves on the back at Alberto Gonzales resignation.  They view it as a feather in their cap–that they forced him out.  That belief is wishful thinking on the Democrats part.  The answer to his resignation has more to do with his life then politics.

Democrats offered only empty rhetoric on Gonzles’ resignation according to ABC:

Senator Patrick Leahy said in a statement he hopes this decision will allow the American public to “renew their faith” in the Justice Department.

Senator Charles Schumer, 1 of Gonzales’ most vocal critics, says “at last, the attorney general has done the right thing.”

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says of the decision that it’s “better late than never.”

And Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says Gonzales “promoted a culture of lawlessness” on behalf of what Dean calls “the Bush White House’s narrow political agenda.”

He did it out of public service to his country not because of Democrats.  For those who do not know, Gonzles is the American dream.  He grew up poor in Houston and made something of himself.  Gonzales attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and earned degrees from Rice University and Harvard law school.  Eventually, he became the Attorney General of the United States.

In his resignation speech he didn’t speak of politics–he spoke of service to his country.  Gonzales’ life has shown a desire to succeed and serve his country.  With the current political climate, he could do neither.  That is the reason for his resignation.
