Tale of Two Attorney Generals

Two United States Attorney Generals and two different outcomes.  Janet Reno served under Bill Clinton’s administration and Alberto Gonzales served under George W. Bush.  One resigned and another did not.  Consider their legacies:

Accused of warrantless domestic eavesdropping program.  No actual proof of wrong doing was provided.  Only accusations were made.

Actually leaked to the media that Richard Jewell was guilty in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.  She later apologized.
Accused of failing to take action in regards to hundreds of serious complaints and investigations against dozens of staff members.  No actual proof of wrong doing was provided.  Only accusations were made. Actually ordered an armed seizure of six-year-old Elian Gonzalez and his return to his surviving parent in Cuba.
Ilian

Accused
of making incorrect statements regarding the right of habeas corpus in the United States Constitution.  No actual proof of illegal behavior was provided.  Only accusations were made.


Actually
ordered the attacks on the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas.  A total of 79 Branch Davidians, 21 of whom were children, were killed.

The tale of two Attorney Generals shows there is a double standard–one for Republicans and one for Democrats.  The same Democrats who called for the head of Alberto Gonzales and now delight in his decapitation never said a word about Janet Reno.
