I’m not Digging it

Not digging it I used to spend countless hours on Digg.  I read the articles, I dugg up my friends, I submitted articles, and I commented.  I was a good and active Digg citizen.  And then I just stopped going there.

You see, it became readily apparent on Digg that I would remain a minority citizen.  Not just a minority but an oppressed minority.  No, I’m not talking about race or ethnicity.   I’m speaking of political ideology.  I’m a conservative.  And as a conservative, the articles I posted were repeatedly buried and the comments I made were repeatedly targeted by profane and antagonistic trolls.  Instead of being a fun place it became an oppressive place.

I wrote to Digg abuse about the comments and the constant burying.  I offered suggestions but I never once received an email in return nor did the abuse stop.  I soon understood that was the system.  Eventually, I saw friend after friend leave or get banned.  When I contacted some of them about their experience on Digg the answers were always the same.  Anger. Frustration. Negativity.

I understood.  I really understood! I was there too. Digg went from a pool of fun to a cesspool of gloom.  I still go to Digg to support my friends but I can’t stand being in Digg for more than 5 minutes before I must sign out.

Digg isn’t a fun place to be anymore.  Unfortunately for Digg, I do take my business elsewhere.  Instead of Digg getting 10 positive references it will get 100 or more negative references.  It’s just poor management on their part.
