Barracuda Web Filter is blocking Jihad Watch and Jawa Report

Just as an FYI — the filter we use at work, Barracuda Web Filter, is currently blocking both JihadWatch and Jawa Report. Why? Because Jihad Watch is currently in the “Terrorism” category and the Jawa Report is labeled as “porn.”

So far no issues with LGF, however.

If you have any more information about Barracuda, please leave a comment here.

Updated: Here is a contact form for Barracuda.

resist21.PNGThis in from Jack Lail, who has been removed from the “pornography” category at SonicWall, and correctly placed in the “31.Web Communications.”

We also had a very informative comment from Blackflag on yesterday’s update on the 1389blog, that is worth re-posting here (Thank you, Blackflag):

I administer both a Websense console and a Surfcontrol console. The company provided default “black lists” for both of these products can be “gamed” by savy administrators. In addition to the automatic updates by Websense that block known malware sites and such administrators can submit sites to the list or apply to have sites already in the list recategorized. A site like LGF can go from existing in the “news” category (allowed) to the “hate speech” category (blocked) fairly easily. I seriously doubt it’s evidence of a malicious move by Websense, they are typically a very professional organization in my experience and should respond to requests by Charles Johnson to have LGF moved back into a benign category. It’s dirty pool, but it’s how the Left plays the game, “Free Speech for me but not for Thee” and all that.

Updated: We received this message from an employee of Proctor and Gamble, regarding the blog, The Religion of Peace:

…This URL belongs to one of the categories that are blocked by P&G Corporate Policy. P&G Electronic Communications Policy is located at The Company @ Fingertips – IT services – Internet & Intranet – Internet Usage Policy Please contact the your Local Call Center is you have a business reason to access this website….

Thank you, to the sender (we aren’t printing the employee’s name here, because we don’t want to get anyone fired). If anyone has information about which filtering service P&G, as well as Ford uses, please let us know.

Meanwhile, here’s the contact form for P&G, to let them know how you feel as a consumer or as an employee about this.
