The Petulant Pessimist

Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after meeting at the White House with President Bush on Iraq:

President Bush’s policy announced by General Petraeus is a path to 10 more years of war in Iraq. General Petraeus’ testimony to Congress drew a bright line: redeployment is not an option; endless war in Iraq is the Administration’s only option.

I watched the hearing, Nancy, and I read the report. Did you? The report was General Petraeus’ and Ambassador Crocker’s on benchmarks. It was not a policy statement. You have once again taken the gutter to achieve your goals. You are insulting an Officer and a Gentleman while lining yours and your husband’s pockets with pork.*

Even General Zinni, before we went into Iraq, knew that we would have to and want to keep troops there for a minimum of ten years. Everyone involved in the planning was aware that we would have to stay long enough for a new generation educated with the tenets of democracy to take control. So what about that don’t you with your pea brain understand?

I believe the term General Petraeus and others are using is “overwatch” for the troops not “war.”

Iraq is now in a policing operation. Read your history if you can stomach the truth. Read about our overwatch in South Korea, Japan, and Germany. These countries were not as complex as the sectarian divides in Iraq and we stuck around and did our duty. We made sacrifices so they could taste and revel in their freedom and democracy.

Do you remember? Can you read? Or are you so blinded by your personal greed and desire for power that you would ignore what is best for this country and the world? Don’t you want others to have a chance for the freedom that you seem so bent on destroying?

The last one is very interesting. It involves her son working part-time at $180,000 salary for Countrywide Financial company who just laid off or fired 10,000 employees and is up to their eyeballs in the subprime mortgage scandal.
