Confined to Behind

Losing They are all polling at 1 to 3 percent weekly in the presidential race  for the Republican nomination–Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback, and Duncan Hunter.  They are confined to behind.

Historically, those at the rear don’t get to steer.  The front runners are steering the conversation.  They get all the attention including the most prized–media.  As a result, those trailing in the polls languish without the attention needed and eventually drop out.

So, what is a candidate to do?  There is precedent.  Most recently, Pennsylvania Tom Ridge, was once referred to as the candidate no one knew, from the city no one had ever seen.  He ran for governor and won in 1994.  How did he do it?  Ridge connected with voters.  He became one of them.  In a popular commercial he made, he wore a brown leather bomber jacket while engaging in almost comical dialog with his mother.  People could relate.

The key for the lagging Republicans is relationships!  How can they connect with the average American?  Americans are not politicians–they are people.  These candidates need to be more like the common everyday person–the waitress, truck driver, officer worker, commuter, 9 to 5 man and woman.  The media will try to make them a politician.  They must stay a person.  Until they do that, they will be confined to behind.
