Digg’s Debacle

A few months ago I wrote an article “Digg is Trending Down” and “The Life Cycle of Digg.”  In the articles I noted that Alexa.com indicated a serious decline for Digg.  My words were ignored.

It is several months later and Digg is still in decline and still in trouble compared to their hey day a year ago.  Take a look at the current Alexa graph.

Digg trend2

Digg’s unwillingness to change and remove the bury button has shown a stark decline among Conservatives.  In addition, their current reengineering of Digg’s looks is not sparking a surge in new customers.  Of course, moving the chairs around on the Titanic does not stop the ship from running into the iceberg.  The results have been the same compared to one year ago:

  • The reach for Digg.com: down
  • Traffic rank for Digg.com: down
  • Page views per user for Digg.com: down

It takes leadership to listen to their customers–especially those who have already jumped ship.  Digg can be saved but it needs to understand they have an inherent flaw in their system.
