Griffin Tells Jesus to “Suck it!” Christians Riot in the Streets

…oh, wait. No they didn’t.

Newsweek reports that a couple of weeks ago, Kathy Griffin (a stand-up comedian and actress) received an Emmy award, and during her acceptance speech:

[S]he explained that while other actors might thank Jesus for such an honor, she wouldn’t consider it. “Suck it, Jesus,” she exuberantly added, waving her statuette in the air. “This award is my God, now.”

Newsweek’s assessment of the situation is that:

Outrage from Christian groups predictably followed…

Huh?! I’m a Christian, and a blogger. I’m disgusted, so I’m going to blog about it. Is that “outrage?” Am I calling for anyone’s death? No. Anyone’s job? No. Anyone’s loss of free speech? No. Most people ignored her altogether. The most extreme response came from a Christian group in Tennessee, which took out ads in USA Today (at $90K each) to express their “outrage.”

The Catholic League’s William Donohue expressed his “outrage” on CNN:

Hollywood laughs when she says ‘Suck it, Jesus,’ but if she’d said ‘Suck it, Jews,’ or ‘Suck it, Muhammad’ … they wouldn’t be laughing, would they?

Well, would they? Does anyone remember the Mohammad cartoons?

See, that’s the difference between living in a theocratic society, and living in a society with true freedom of religion. Here, you can tell someone else’s god to “suck it,” and they can take out an ad in the paper or go on TV news to give their opinion about your opinion, then we all get on with our lives.

Griffin said that little Emmy award is her new god. Well, Kathy, guess what my God does to little golden idols? Bwahahahah!

Now, let the outrage ensue.
