Ron Paul Supporters at the CLC ‘07

By now, I’m sure everyone’s heard that Ron Paul won the Conservative Leadership Conference Straw Poll in Reno, NV (Romney and Hunter, who appeared at the conference were second and third).

Here are the other answers Political Derby chose to publish.

Which issues are most important to you? (Top 3: Cutting Taxes, Immigration reform/Protecting our borders, The War on Terrorism)

Why did Republicans lose control of Congress? (Top 3: Failure of Republicans to control spending, President George W. Bush, Legal, ethical and moral scandals)

How likely would you be to consider voting for a third party (not-major) candidate for president in the November 2008 General Election? (2/3 unlikel

How would you describe your ideology? (53% Conservative, 43% Libertarian or Libertarian-Conservative)

When I was completing this straw poll, I believed from the nature of the other questions, a couple of which poked fun of Hillary Clinton (one of the possible answers, if I remember correctly, gave readers the option of starving to death than eating dinner with her), and others which seemed to be spoof demographics questions (for example, one option on “number of children,” was “none that I know of). I assumed the results would be used for entertainment at the banquet at the end of the convention.

So I was very surprised the next day when I logged on and read an e-mail from Orlando, FHK’s editor, saying, “This article says Ron Paul won the straw poll at the CLC you went to.” And apparently, they were serious. Color me shocked.

I have requested numerous times a copy of either the remainder of the results of the poll, or at least a list of the questions and possible answers. If I’m able to get a copy of those, I’ll update this post.

I really hadn’t seen that many Ron Paul followers at the convention. Most of the time, they were easily distinguishable – usually very angry (except for this very nice group, pictured here at the luau, who were fun to talk to, obviously having a good time, nad nice enough to pose for this photo -thank you) , and carrying signs or wearing buttons in support of their hero. Since this was not an election rally, they were pretty much the only ones carrying signs…the funniest ones held signs up in front of them through the workshops and panel discussions.

Nonetheless, congrats to Ron Paul and to his devoted following for winning yet another poll. It will be interesting to see if these and other poll results are reflected at the primaries.
