Blue Jean Jihad?

Malaysian Cleric Nik Abdul Aziz may have recently clued us in on a valuable weapon the west has in the war on terror - our women! Apparently, according to Aziz, western-styled clothing is provacative, and women wearing them constitutes emotional abuse” of men. From the TimesOnline: (hat-tip, Salon)

We always [hear about] the abuse of children and wives in households, which is easily perceived by the eye but the emotional abuse of men cannot be seen. Our prayers become unfocused and our sleep is often disturbed.

In an interview with Mother Jones, Azadeh Moaveni discusses her book, Lipstick Jihad, about growing up Iranina in America, and explains, regarding the issue of having to “cover up” while visiting Iran:

I write in the book about eroticization. It’s not explicit, ever, but the emphasis on covering and the hidden and forbidden was sexualizing because everyone was very preoccupied with that. Nothing about how you conduct your private life is at all apparent from the way you look to everyone else. Evasiveness, privacy and eroticization all came together in the post-revolutionary culture.

I believe Aussie women had the right idea. In reaction to an Australian Mufti’s calling women in western clothing “uncovered meat,” Australian women combined “The Great Bikini March,” with Australia Day this year.

Did Aziz may have unwittingly reveal a powerful psychological warfare tool readily at our disposal? Can we confuse the enemy, and fight jihad on the pages of of the fashion magazines?
