CNN’s Shameful Planting

dem plants There were so many plants during the CNN-YouTube debates is looked like a botanical garden.  Supporters of Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama all got to ask questions of the Republicans.  Even worse, the questions were based on conservative stereotypes–trilateral commission, abortion, gun control, illegal immigration, Confederate flag, and gays in the military.  It was a pathetic display of biased journalism under the guise of an informative debate.  In reality, CNN embarrassed themselves.

Retired General Kerr led the brigade of plants with his gays in the military question.  That was not enough.  He was flown all the way from California to Florida to be in the audience and asked again about the candidates answers.  It turns out Mr. Kerr, the former soldier, works for Hillary Clinton’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual Americans Steering Committee.  To add insult to injury, he had been on CNN 4 years prior discussing gays in the military.  So, it isn’t as if CNN did not know about him as Anderson Cooper claimed.  A simple Google search would have revealed his affiliations.

To add to the list of plants, Michelle Malkin is reporting that the abortion questioner was an Edwards supporter, the Log Cabin Republican was a declared Obama supporter, and the lead toy questioner was a prominent union activist for John Edwards.  Clinton, Edwards, and Obama supporters all in one night of this farcical debate!  How much did CNN want to push the envelope of credibility?  Obviously, they pushed it as far as they could.

Not that CNN had any credibility left but they certainly blew whatever they had. It’s amazing that Democrats won’t debate on FOX News but Republicans continue to go into hostile territory for their debates. It makes the Democrats look like cowards.

Of course, knowing what they are walking in to doesn’t appear to be much of an advantage for the Republican candidates. For the most part they looked bad last night, not because of the idiotic questions (that made CNN look bad) but because they seemed unaware that they were even going to have to deal with this stuff.

McCain is the only one who handled the gay question from this disgraceful retired general. And even he never really disputed the premise on which the question was based. Many bloggers today have done a far better job of handling the questions that did the candidates.

At this point I think the Republicans need to wise up and refuse to debate on CNN. It is clear that CNN wants to have Republican debates not to inform the public but to embarrass Republican candidates. The public would be far better served if all future debates were held elsewhere.
