FHK SitRep 11.29.07: Mixx, the Latest Social News Site

From the Mixx (beta) is a social news site that combines social networking with a search engine. Mixx uses the tags users submit to find articles on the site or elsewhere on the web. The signup process is easy, the site very user-friendly, and the look and feel is familiar to those accustomed to sites like Digg.com and Propeller.

Compared to other news sites, the “fun” section is quite impressive, as is the ability to submit photos with articles similarly to GOPHub. The politics section is decidedly left-leaning, but, at least thus far, lacks the animosity and viciousness present on some other political sites.

From the welcome message for Mixx:

Now that you’re here, you can enjoy everything Mixx has to offer, including:

* Immediate access to the stories, videos and photos that matter to you—not stuff that we randomly choose for you.
* An easy way to post, vote for and/or comment on content that you find fascinating, important—or just funny.
* Simple drag-and-drop management of Your Mixx categories and content.
* Private groups.

Every once in awhile, we’ll send out an email to let you know about any new widgets, gadgets, gizmos, bells and/or whistles that we’ve added to the site. It could even be one you’ve suggested!
