Good for Graham to stand up to the coy attitude of Willard Romney. Romney has been sheepish about the Iraq war in order to position himself later; this was pointed out by Byron York today and Rich Lowry long ago. For anyone here to accuse McCain of being a coward is simply pathetic; he’s given more than any of us in five years than we have our entire lives. This, unfortunately, is the state of contemporary American conservatism: We disdain war heroes and love those without core principles.

This is the dirty, plain and simple. McCain and Clinton deserve each other. This proves the point that McCain will stop at nothing, including the destruction of the Republican Party, to gain power himself.
The only hope is that the voters of Florida will see through this bitter old man.

What people don’t realize is… the other attacks on Romney are also distortions.

The anti-Romney propaganda is easily dissected once you know the truth. “Fact”: In 2005 Mitt Romney said the McCain immigration bill was “reasonable,” but opposed it in 2007. Truth: Romney explicitly refused to endorse the 2005 bill. His position hardly changed; the bill itself changed. “Fact”: As Governor, Romney refused to comment on Bush’s tax cuts. Truth: When asked, Romney was trying to pass a state budget through a liberal legislature and wisely stayed out of national politics. “Fact”: taxes went up under Romney. Truth: cities raised taxes, Romney cut them. “Fact”: Fees are like taxes. Truth: a fee covers costs for a special good or service (similar to paying a local business); Romney saved tax dollars by reducing the taxpayer subsidy of fees. “Fact”: Under Romney there were sanctuary cities. Truth: sanctuary status was instituted on a city level, outside Romney’s purview. “Fact”: Romney changed on gay rights. Truth: the words “gay rights” had different meaning in 1994 than they do today. Romney has consistently stood and fought against gay marriage. “Fact”: Romney didn’t execute any criminals. Truth: there is no death penalty in Massachusetts but Romney fought for it. “Fact”: Romney said he didn’t line up with the NRA then became a member. Truth: Romney has always agreed with most NRA positions but never lined up on everything. “Fact”: Romney said his father marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. Truth: George Romney participated in Dr. King’s marches, led a march of 10,000 and was praised by MLK, Jr. who spoke positively about the prospect of George Romney running for president.

Then there is abortion. They claim Romney provided 50 dollar abortion co-pays in his health-care bill. Truth: the abortion co-pay was court-mandated and was not part of the bill.

The reality is, Mitt Romney is a human being. He has feelings. When a dear family member died from an illegal abortion, Romney struggled with the role of government relative to abortion. As governor however, Romney was forced to make his first real decision on the issue of embryonic life. He could not bring himself to side against life. In that place of clarity Romney allowed himself to delve into the issue, studying all nuances and ramifactions. Out of the fray, Romney emerged pro-life.

I wish someone would ask McCain if he is AGAINST any privately held timetables, benchmarks or goals toward success in Iraq? This is what Romney was talking about. They should turn it on McCain. These private benchmarks are in place and are being executed right now with superb success. Does McCain really support an open ended, unaccountable military exercise? If so, he is a bigger idiot than I thought.

Graham is McCain’s mini me. They are both spineless, lying, opportunistic weasels in the Senate. They are the only two Republicans I have ever known that would drive me to vote for another party or not vote at all.

I worked for Graham’s election, calling voters, walking precincts, working campaign events and there is little in my life that I am more ashamed of. The man is a spineless dog who cares for nothing but his political ambition. He is a carbon copy of McCain!
