Whether it is the President of the USA, or the President /CEO of a company, they both start their day off the same way, with a briefing or clipping folder. This folder is condensed news about the company or the country and any news clipping that refers to the reader by name.

This is the time line:

April 10, 2008 The New York Times reported,

…Former President, Carter to Meet With Hamas Chief.

April 11, 2008 the AP reported,

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice criticized former President Carter on Friday for his reported plans to meet the exiled leader of the militant Palestinian group Hamas during a visit to Syria.

April 13, 2008 the USA Today reported,

The State Department has already (twice…not once, but TWICE) advised (counseled, recommended, cajoled) Carter against meeting any representative of Hamas. Such a meeting would be a big gift to all terrorists and the first public contact in two years between any prominent American figure and Hamas officials. It would, according to a letter from DEMOCRATS, “confer legitimacy” on a group that embraces and endorses violence.

However, notwithstanding admonitions from the State Department AND a letter from Congressional democrats, Carter apparently intends to flip them all off and drape himself in his 2002 Nobel Peace Prize mantle despite his own party’s aggravated angst.

April 15, 2008 the London Times reported based on an AP report,

Jimmy Carter, the former US President, defended a controversial plan to meet the leader of the violently anti-Israel Hamas and said that he hoped to become a conduit between the militant group and Washington and even Tel Aviv.

‘It is absolutely crucial that in the final and dreamt-about and prayed-for peace agreement for this region that Hamas be involved and Syria will be involved,’ he said outside Tel Aviv. Mr Carter plans to meet Khaled Mashaal, the exiled supreme leader of the Palestinian group, in Syria this week.

A State Department official said: ‘We did not think now is the moment for him or anyone to be talking with Hamas. (AP)

April 17, 2008 The WAPO reported that Carter met with Hamas.

Carter had planned on traveling with ex UN President Kofi Annan but Annan had withdrawn from the trip after speaking to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Before Carter left the US Airspace, before he boarded a plane, David Welch, assistant secretary of State for Near Eastern affairs, discouraged Carter from meeting with Hamas as well. The Islamist group does not recognize Israel’s right to exist and the United States designates it a terrorist organization. In addition two Democratic leaders on the House Foreign Affairs Committee wrote a letter to him asking him to cancel his trip.

April 23, 2008 Newsmax reported,

President Carter has the greatest respect for … Rice and believes her to be a truthful person. However, perhaps inadvertently, she is continuing to make a statement that is not true,” a statement issued by the Carter center in Atlanta said on Wednesday.

‘No one in the State Department or any other department of the U.S. government ever asked him (Carter) to refrain from his recent visit to the Middle East or even suggested that he not meet with Syrian President (Bashar) Assad or leaders of Hamas,’ it said.

Either Carter is getting more senile than ever or his staff isn’t doing their job. The whole world knew that the State Department was against the trip. Why didn’t he? And then this fool wants the world to believe him over Secretary of State Rice. Methinks he has been hanging out with his homeboy Obama too much.

I am reminded of a couple of quotes from Abraham Lincoln.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

And,

No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar.

And finally,

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Now Jimmy, we have no doubt at all!
