Update: Michelle Malkin – Top 10 reasons McCain should repudiate the National Council of La Raza

Their signature slogan, chanted at pro-illegal alien rallies from coast to coast, is “La raza unida nunca sera vencida.”

“A united [Hispanic] race will never be defeated.”

What possible good will come out of a GOP presidential candidate giving legitimacy and credibility to a sovereignty-undermining, assimilation-rejecting, law-defying group that calls itself “The Race?” (more)

The following is from John McCain’s Campaign Website, emphasis mine:

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement on Cinco de Mayo as his campaign announced several new Spanish efforts:

Cinco de Mayo commemorates an important moment in the history of Mexico’s path to freedom. On this day in 1862, a small group of Mexican troops overcame overwhelming force to win the Battle of Puebla. Today, we join together to remember the sacrifice that these Mexican patriots endured, as well as the struggles of all those around the world striving for freedom. We recognize as well the important friendship that exists between our country and Mexico, and celebrate the many contributions Mexican-Americans have made to our society, culture, security and economy

.

The Cinco de Mayo statement can now also be found on the Spanish section of the official campaign website at http://espanol.johnmccain.com, which the campaign launched today. This part of the website will feature regular updates in Spanish throughout the election.

Finally, as part of his commitment to talking with all Americans during this presidential campaign, the McCain presidential campaign announced that John McCain will attend the La Raza Annual Convention in San Diego on July 14, 2008

“La Raza” in English, means “The Race,” (contrary to what is written on the English version of the organization’s website, denying the simple correct translation of its name).

La Raza is a Latino-Supremist Group. What’s next? Will he be attending the Black Panther meetings? KKK demonstrations?

Thanks again for the hat-tip…I have just added this site to my favorites for a daily look.

I got here via Michelle’s fascist website. Thank you for linking to La Raza’s website. I’d never gone there before, as I’m allergic to enthic politics. When I defend illegal immigrants, I don’t do it because they’re Hispanic, but because America’s capitalist system welcomes them. But why do you think the mixture of races, which is what Hispanics are (not a “race” but a mixture of races), and which is what La Raza seems to be celebrating, objectionable like the KKK’s race-purity racism. It seems to me is its opposite.

I hadn’t seen this post when I posted mine. Clearly McCain isn’t concerned about conservatives or conservatism. I know we’re not supposed to question the patriotism of war heroes and I’m sure I’ll get chastised by someone for saying this but I seriously wonder whether McCain wants to destroy this country, at least as we know it. He certainly acts as if that’s precisely what he wants.

    4. forthardknox Jenn Sierra says:

Arturo, you aren’t making any sense. First of all, you need to look up the definition of “fascist.” Hint: the definition is not “points of view that ofdend me.” Malkin’s career is partially about fighting fascism, so calling her website a fascist website really makes you look dumb.

Moving on to your definition of “hispanic.” That’s an American spelling for the way many Spanish-speakers say the English word “Spanish.” And “La Raza” is singular, not plural.

Illegal immigrants, by the way, are not necessarily “hispanic.” They can come from anywhere. For example, there are a significant number of Middle-Easterners, some with terrorist ties, entering the U.S through the southern border right now, because it’s so easy.

While we’re discussing ethnic groups, let’s not forget “Americans”? You know, the legal, tax-paying ones from many different ethnic origins (including “hispanic,”) many of whom expect the government to protect them from an invasion.

    5. arturo fernandez says:

      Jenn,

Michelle’s is a fascist website. On the subject of illegal immigration, it exists solely to dehumanize individuals whom the American people (the entrepreneur, but more important the consumer) have taken in.

The word “Hispanic” predates American spelling. It predates America and Spanish-speakers trying to say “Spanish” in English. It comes from the Latin word “Hispania”, the Roman’s name for what today is Spain and Portugal.

Yes, “La Raza” is singular. In fact, there is no plural for it. Hispanics understand the word differently, because Hispanics are a mixture of races. No plural is needed, no one is excluded.

    6. TXPoet TXPoet says:

      Arturo
Don’t blame capitalism for illegal immigrants. You can blame green. Bear-Stearns reported that the influx of illegals has lowered wages for American workers. The people hiring the illegals take advantage of them and cheat the rest of us while they are breaking the law. America has a system of laws I say enforce them; both against the unscrupulous employer and the illegal immigrant. I also say revamp the guest worker programs and make sure they are aware of their labor rights and force employers to maintain workman’s comp insurance on all guest workers. There is a way to do it fairly without burdening our economy, our environment, our security or our country’s future. If people would look at facts instead of listening to a biased media most would be against current immigration policies. As it stands now the latest polls show 49% again any type of amnesty and 7% undecided. Majority rules.

    7. forthardknox Jenn Sierra says:

No race is excluded, Arturo? So, if I, as a white woman, want help from LaRaza, like, say, help getting a home loan, they will be happy to help me? Interesting.

    8. Ron Ron says:

Let me say first that I don’t blame ANYONE for wanting to come to America. It really is the land of opportunity! Let me also say that yes, our government is to blame for much of the problem we have today. They have turned a blind eye to the illegal immigration problem for two reasons. First, they believe that illegal immigrants help out businesses, which I refute. Second, and more importantly, they think (particularly Democrats but now more and more Republicans) that if they give enough stuff to illegals and make them citizens, they’ll get their votes. It’s called pandering and it’s bad for the coutry regardless of who is being pandered to.

I do not support any scheme of rounding up illegals to deport them. It is unfeasible and would cause far more problems than it would solve. Instead, I support policies that would lead to voluntary self deportation.

If we hit employers hard that hire illegals they’d stop doing it. Combine that with cutting off social services to illegals save for live saving care, there would be little incentive for coming here and a lot of incentive to leave if you’re here illegally.

As for La Raza, regardless of what meaning you assign to the name, the organization works diligently to undermine US law and to take advantage of US citizens. If La Raza really cared about hispanics they’d be doing their work in Mexico. But you never hear them complain about the coutry they have fled. Remember that Mexico, the country to complains long and loud about our immigraiton policy, has one of the toughest immigration policies in the western hemisphere! Try sneaking across the southern board and if you are caught you might be shot. If you aren’t shot you will certainly be imprisoned in conditions far worse than any American jail.

So lets stop this silliness about racism and fairness. If illegals got what was fair they WOULD be deported, all of them. They’ve become accustomed to being treated with kid gloves and so expect it should continue whether deserved or not. There is nothing fair about allowing millions of people to illegally enter this country.

    9. arturo fernandez says:

      TXPoet,

I don’t “blame” capitalism for illegal immigration. Capitalism, however, makes it happen. Illegal immigrations happens with the very active participation of the American entrepreneur and, more important, the American consumer. I agree with you that at this time a guest worker program is better than what we have now.

      Jenn,

Like I said before, I try to stay away from ethnic politics (I’m against affirmative action and Bilingual Education), so I don’t know much about La Raza. But their website you link does say they help white and black people. I think they will help you get a home loan. You should try. Hopefully, they will live up to their name and will help you.

      Ron,

If they’re like me, La Raza defends illegal immigrants in the US because they’re in the US, and because this is the country they care about. It almost sounds like you’re saying they should care more about another country.

    10. Ron Ron says:

I don’t know how you can say they care about the US when they march through our streets carrying Mexican flags. Many of them openly proclaim their desire to reclaim those portions the US that were part of Mexico at one time. That hardly sounds like caring for the US.

If they cared about America they’d want to assimilate into American culture like generations of immigrants have done before them. They’d want to learn English. They want the laws to be enforced because it is in everyone’s best interest to live in a lawful society.

I’ll grant that there are illegals who want those things. But far to many just want a free ride and their actions demonstrate that fact. if they’re not careful they’ll turn this country into exactly what they fled. Where will they and we be then?

    11. arturo fernandez says:

      Ron,

I don’t know how you get that the people running La Raza do not speak English and don’t want to learn English, among other things. The website Jenn linked is in English. Ron, I’m certain they speak English.

In the past few years the extremists on the Right (the fascists) have been able to turn this debate into an assault on the character of illegal immigrants. It has become normal to speak of people, of human beings behaving just like like human beings do in such circumstances, as “illegals” “lawbreakers”, which quickly turns into “scum” and more. The word “illegals” used as a noun dehumanizes them.

It is, therefore, understandable that some react in ways like you describe (though most do not, by the way). When you offend someone and say it’s because you love America, it is no surprise that the people you offended will defend themselves by offending America. So you see them marching with Mexican flags in the streets of America. It says a lot of the nobility of the illegal immigrants that it’s not them carrying those Mexican flags. It is usually American citizens speaking for them.

Is Juan McCain aiming to tick off every Republican?!? As it is most of us are going to have to hold our noses to vote for their traitor! If he doesn’t pick Mitt Romney as his running mate, say hello to four miserable years of Pres. Obama.

    13. April Hoover says:

To Arturo Fernandez: One word for you — bull!

    14. John Rowse says:

There are alternatives to the Juan McCain/Obama Illegal alien Amnesty Agenda. Check out the Constitution party or the LIbertarian Party. The constitution defines but one crime that of treason. Treason is giving aid or comfort to the enemies of the United States and when a traitor such as Juan McCain goes before racist groups like La Raza and MALDEF promising AMNESTY and free medical care and instate tuition to the Hispanic illegal alien invasion forces, Juan McCain is committing treason.
