They have all been linked to a popular prayer that is/has been passed around via email for years now. I just received it this morning (thanks Ed!) and, as I often do, did a little “snoping.” Now I know Snopes isn’t the end all when it comes to Internet knowledge, but after reading it I found it damned interesting as well as a disturbing look into the mind of the communist party in America, who call themselves Democrats. I call it like I see it. The version I received was attributed to Paul Harvey and says:
PAUL HARVEY’S ON- AIR PRAYER
‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.
We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good, but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, ‘The Rest of the Story,’ and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord’s help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called ‘One nation under God.’
Doesn’t matter at this point who said it, its true and inspirational. Snopes goes on to explain that it has also been attributed, in a slightly different version as a “controversial” prayer given by Rev. Joe Wright at the opening of a Kansas legislative session. Controversial?
Turns out the prayer was not Rev. Joe Wright’s, but one offered up in 1995 by Bob Russell who opened a Kentucky Governor’s Prayer Breakfast with it. But when Rev. Joe Wright offered the prayer at the opening of the Kansas legislative session, one Democrat walked out in protest, three other Democrats gave critical speeches of Rev. Wrights prayer and then House minority leader Tom Sawyer (Democrat), asserted that the prayer reflects the extreme, radical views that continue to dominate the House Republican agenda since right-wing extremists seized control of the House Republican caucus last year. Huh? Keep in mind this was in 1996. Kansas Democrat Rep. Jim Long said Rev. Wright “made everyone mad.” The “stink” surrounding the incident was apparently turned into a media circus about religion mixing with politics, blah blah blah…you all know the routine.
What I think, no, what I know happened was that the socialist (D) didn’t like hearing the truth about the things they support and the damage inflicted to our fine Republic and its citizenry by their policies of liberalism. Kind of like a rapist doesn’t like to be confronted with their crime after the fact.
The Snopes article is here if you care to give it a read and thanks for listening. I just thought this was a good story, no matter how dated, into how the liberal leftist mind works. They know the damage they inflict on society and feel shame when confronted with it.
And now in the words of the great Paul Harvey, “and now you know…the rest of the story…Good day.”
NOTE: World Net Daily has an article up today with Paul Harvey commenting on the War on Terror.
