Update, courtesy of FHK Reader, Thanos, of Noblesse Oblige: One of the vehicles of the storm worm is a new email regarding the FBI gaining access to Facebook accounts, titled “FBI vs Facebook” See this article at F-Secure.

If you don’t have an up to date anti-virus program GET ONE. The FBI is warning about the increase in the "Storm Virus". This is a variant of the  same virus that spread last year. It can carry several different malicious programs and it can infect all windows operating systems.

Everyone should consider the following:

  • Do not respond to unsolicited (spam) e-mail.
  • Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as officials soliciting personal information via e-mail.
  • Do not click on links contained within an unsolicited e-mail.
  • Be cautious of e-mail claiming to contain pictures in attached files, as the files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from known senders.
  • Validate the legitimacy of the organization by directly accessing the organization’s web site rather than following an alleged link to the site.
  • Do not provide personal or financial information to anyone who solicits information.

To thoroughly check your computer against malware, spyware and vulnerabilities you can take advantage of either the online and free scans offered by Trend-Micro or Panda .

Remember most emails that are either phishing or designed to spread viruses or Trojan horses are socially engineered to get you to click and designed to avoid your email’s anti-virus so Click at Your Own Peril.

The post is now updated even though the facebook connection is mentioned in the FBI article reference, but since that is not the only method of “social engineering” used by the purveyors of this virus I would caution people to be very wary of opening and clicking on any link from a source they do not completely trust.

Speak Your Mind

This comment section is for the readers of Ft. Hard Knox, a place for political conservatives to share information about online activism. We are not "fair and balanced," and we aren't refereeing a "free speech zone." Intelligent, funny, and on-topic comments are welcome. Trolls, spam, and liberal propaganda are not. We may occassionally approve a comment with an obvious lefty-slant so that we can amuse ourselves by making fun of it, but most will be deleted. (Why? Because we're busy, we have lives, and when we want to talk to you we'll go visit you on Digg or the Daily KOS.)

This is a private blog, and we reserve the right to make up our own rules as we go along. The few comments which manage to squeak by our censors reflect the opinion of the commentator, and not necessarily the staff of Ft. Hard Knox.

Hint: One sure-fire way to get your comment sent directly to the "spam" folder is to call us "racists" for disagreeing with a policy of the current POTUS or speaking out against terrorism.
