Hot Air TV special correspondent Jason Mattera dons his undercover costume to bring you one last, unhinged hurrah from Denver and the DNC. You won’t believe what he heard at the illegal alien Aztlan march downtown (don’t miss the breeding comments, the California conquerors, the Commie who won’t give away her hat, and the students from P.S. 1 in Denver who were required to attend the rally for class).

Dem and GOP Response to Gustov

If you’ve been reading the conservative blogs the last fews days you are probably aware of video floating around showing former DNC chair Don Fowler saying Gustov shows God is on the side of the Democrats. He made the comments on a flight back to South Carolina with SC Democrat Congressman John Spratt who seemed to think the comment was funny. If you haven\’t seen the video, here it is.

FOX News has been reporting on this today and interviewing congressional Democrats about the comments. It\s fun to watch them squirm and try to redeem the individuals involved. Read more

Barack and Joe vs. John and Sarah: Whatta Fight!

Marshall McLuhan was right when he said “The medium is the message.” Obama’s masterfully choreographed extravaganza, a combination rock festival/revival meeting/political anointing was, what can I say, both underwhelming and overwhelming. The fireworks and confetti were a bit much (not to mention the Greek Temple motif), and I ultimately missed the balloons which I used to think were pretty silly.

Hurtling into the future makes me feel a bit nostalgic. Yes, I miss the whistle-stop tours of old and the spontaneity of some of the candidates’ speeches, before everything was so carefully scripted and rehearsed. And when I was so much younger.

Obama’s speech was good, not great, but his oratorical skills are clearly as good as Bill Clinton’s, maybe even better. One can’t help “liking” him as he speaks. His charm is overwhelming. He moves like Denzel Washington, slightly athletic, enjoying that fact that his every move is being followed by adoring admirers…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>

Apparently, the new V.P. nominee is willing to visit the troops at Landstuhl, even without a campaign staff in tow… (More photos of Palin visiting the troops, here)

Could Palin be VP? (Update: Yes)

August 29, 2008 by Ron

Sarah PalinBack in February I wrote a post about Sarah Palin.  I said then that she would be an excellent pick for VP.  She’s attractive, young, decidedly conservative and strongly pro life.  For the last month or more I’ve made the argument that she is far and away the best pick McCain could make.  She could draw women Clinton voters as well as shore up McCain’s support among conservatives.  But I’ve also said there was no way McCain would actually pick her.

Well, the word on the street this morning is that McCain has done just that!  It seems a plane left Anchorage last night and arrived at an airfield about 30 miles away from the site of today’s announcement.  Pawlenty and Romney appear to have been eliminated a possible candidate.  Tom Ridge and Joe Lieberman are also out of the running.  Who’s left?  Apparently Palin.

If McCain actually picks her, he’ll suprise me.  I didn’t give him credit for the smarts to make this pick.  One way or the other, we’ll know around noon today.

UPDATE: FOX News is reporting that a senior McCain campaign official has confirmed that Sarah Palin is the VP pick.

Michelle Malkin has more.

From Mark Levin at NRO:

I should add that if Palin is the choice, this also suggests that McCain may not be as stubborn as portrayed — and that’s a good thing given his positions on a number of issues that have given conservatives heart-burn.  At least it gives us some hope in that regard.

Something to think about.  I may be swayed yet.

Update – It’s official

In case you missed it, the Beijing closing ceremony was an extended dramatization of the sexual act, ending with the fertilization of an egg. Read more

The DNC: A Night of Political Soap Opera

August 28, 2008 by Phyllis Chesler

It was an evening of political soap opera. Senator Biden’s wife, Senator Obama’s wife, each wept a little in their seats. Biden and his son hugged each other. In full view, both Democratic candidates kissed the other candidates’ female relatives. And although the speakers at the DNC got one rousing ovation after the other, even though I myself was sometimes moved by the theatrical tactics-the platitudes did not move me so much as sadden me. The speeches were fraught with promises which bore no relationship to reality and which failed to deal with the existential peril to America posed by Islamic jihad.

The only speaker who even remotely touched upon this was Senator Biden who only once mentioned dangerous “fundamentalism in Afghanistan and Pakistan”-as if al Qaeda, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, Islamic Jihad, etc. do not exist world-wide. President Clinton ignored this very Islamist threat when it might still have been contained. It now exists on every continent and it became so on his watch.

Both President Clinton and Senator Biden were charismatic speakers. Biden mainly presented himself as a family man, whose track record as a brave and caring single father was and is exemplary. Biden also praised his white-haired mother, (who was present), and his father, (who has since gone on to his final reward). Both parents had taught “Joey” Biden to “pick himself up after he was knocked down.” Biden’s gratitude and love for his parents and for his children and grandchildren was sincere and moving…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>

Bill Clinton Said WHAT?! at the Democratic Convention

August 27, 2008 by Jenn Sierra

Former President Bill Clinton, yesterday, at the Democratic Convention in Denver, CO:

For example, you’re a voter and you have “Candidate X” and “Candidate Y.” Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues, but you believe that on the other half the candidate will be able to deliver. For whom will you vote?

Obama: Why aren’t we more like China?!

Barack “Citizen of the World” Obama:

Everybody’s watching what’s going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics. Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business you’re starting to think, ‘Beijing looks like a pretty good option.’
