The Art of the Deal

No, not the autobiography by Donald Trump. Haggling is an age old art-form. It has been described as polite arguing. The trick in haggling is for the seller to learn just how desperate the buyer is and the trick for the buyer is to determine just how much the seller wants to make money.

A starving man may sell his soul for a crust of bread, but a starving man with a crust of bread might not want to sell it at all. A baker wants to sell his bread when it is fresh so that people will know what kind of artisan he is but if he can’t sell it quickly, he can still sell it the next day at a reduced rate enough to cover his time and expense. But if he can’t sell it the third day, he must toss it out, toast it for croutons, or crumble it for bird feed and lose money.

Attorneys are taught in law school the art of plea bargaining, which is a form of haggling except in plea bargaining neither lawyer has much to lose. Lawyers are going to be paid one way or another both prosecutor and defender. Their won – loss record is the only thing at stake and that is tied more to their egos rather than their ability to make a living. So basically when a lawyer makes a deal it matters not the price what matters is how his record appears.

Once you grasp this very simple premise you will understand why our Congress is so inept. We are the defendant in court, their clients. It is our fate hanging in the balance. They will get paid regardless of whether they win or lose, but any win looks good so they … get ready for it… compromise. For them it is a win-win situation.

It requires less work from them, they then have more time to pursue other things. Who cares if it is morally right or wrong? They only care how it can be manipulated into another feather in their cap.

A businessman wants the most profit possible and understands haggling, even in a “free market” society.

Our Constitution and Bill of Rights were drafted by farmers, business men, preachers and a few lawyers. These documents were meant to be simple so that everyone could read and understand them. They were not written ambiguously the words carefully chosen were, so that future generations could readily understand them. Yet today we have allowed lawyers (and others) to twist, pollute and dilute them.

It is no longer a government of the people for the people, it has become a government dictating to the people. We are still a Republic but Congress and political parties are running this country like a democracy. Our Founders saw the flaws in a democratic form of government. That group of simple men, mostly uneducated compared to today, saw more and understood more than the average citizen of today. Their actions today can only be explained as inspired by a Higher Power.

It’s time to for the people to stand up and be counted. It is time to make our elected officials hear our voices, not the voices of the main stream media, or the voices of lobbyists, or the voices of “Party” leaders, or the voices of monied corporations. It is time to take America back to Her grassroots.

Are you aware that our Congress, even as poorly performing as they are, have the right to speak for us? Are you aware of the political and financial reasons, Petulant Pelosi and the Democratic Party don’t want you to hear the truth or facts? They call her Madame Speaker, but they should drop the “speaker” portion of that for she is truly presiding over a House of Ill Repute and over a group of people, the majority of which are prostitutes, selling themselves on the open market.

It is not the time to compromise! It is the time to mark your position in the sand and show the other side you can’t be bullied or pushed. This is your Country and your future. Isn’t it worth speaking up for? Educate yourself on the facts not the propaganda. Emulate our Founding Fathers!

I agree, this is not a time for compromise. It is time to stand firm on our beliefs.

This comment section is for the readers of Ft. Hard Knox, a place for political conservatives to share information about online activism. We are not "fair and balanced," and we aren't refereeing a "free speech zone." Intelligent, funny, and on-topic comments are welcome. Trolls, spam, and liberal propaganda are not. We may occassionally approve a comment with an obvious lefty-slant so that we can amuse ourselves by making fun of it, but most will be deleted. (Why? Because we're busy, we have lives, and when we want to talk to you we'll go visit you on Digg or the Daily KOS.)

Hint: One sure-fire way to get your comment sent directly to the "spam" folder is to call us "racists" for disagreeing with a policy of the current POTUS or speaking out against terrorism.
