How the New FHK Works

One reason we wanted to change to a magazine theme was so that we could better manage how information is presented. We also wanted to make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for. We realize, however, that since FHK now doesn’t really look like a normal blog, some folks might need a better explanation of what’s going on on the front page.

At the top of the page are the menu bars. The top menu bar contains buttons to all the pages in the site. There’s also a button to the FHK Forum which we’ll have more to say about shortly. The second menu bar contains buttons to each category at FHK.

Below the menu bars you’ll find the FHK Feature section. This is where you’ll find the posts that we believe are particularly worth paying attention to. That’s not to say the other posts aren’t important but the Features will be particularly noteworthy. Simply click through the tabs across the top of the Feature section to see each feature.

Below the FHK Feature section is the FHK Category section. The three most recent posts in each category will be listed here. You’re not, however, limited to just the three most recent posts. At the bottom of each category is a link to more posts in that category.

You’ll likely notice that some posts show up in more than one category. That’s by design and if you think about it, it makes sense. A video might also fit in Satire/Humor or it might fit in News and if commentary accompanies the video it might also fit in Op-Eds. You can also reach all the categories using the menu bar at the top.

Right now we have six primary categories along with the Featured category. If we choose to add another category or two, they will be added to the category section.

At the top of the sidebars you’ll see the FHK Featured Video. We’ll try to keep that up-to-date so that there is always a great video posted there.

In the left sidebar, below the FHK Featured Video, is where you’ll find the FHK Sponsors. We’ve taken FHK beyond a normal blog and doing so has added to the expense of running the site. We hope that, if you like what you find here, you’ll consider helping us out by visiting our sponsors. There’s also a button to donate to FHK in the menu bar at the top of the page.

The right sidebar is where you’ll find general information. Information about FHK projects will be listed here. The link to subscribe to the FHK feed is also in this sidebar.

We think this design makes the front page cleaner, more manageable and easier for our readers. If you have any problems navigating the new site, please let us know. We want to present you with timely, important information in a manner that is easy to navigate and understand.
