Why the ‘Fair Pay Act’ is Unfair (#LibHippos)
January 30, 2009 by Jenn Sierra

Once again, the government has meddled in the free market, and in the lives of American families. Once again, Democrats have focused on winning a battle, rather than the war.
This time, it’s the war for the American family.
Yesterday, President Barack Obama (D) signed into law the so-alled “Fair Pay Act,” or Lilly Ledbetter Law, named in honor of a woman who sued her employer and lost, for paying her less than her male counterparts.
Ironically, even Barack Obama (D) hasn’t lived up to the requirements in the law he so proudly smiled to the cameras and signed. CNS News is reporting that Obama’s male to female pay ratio is approximately that of most American employers, and that his female Senate staffers were paid 78% of their male counterparts.
So is Obama an male chauvinist? Probably not. He’s made himself into a hypocrite with this law, but there’s nothing in his record or attitude to indicate that he hates or undervalues women. He, or whoever he paid to handle his hiring, however, know a deep, dark truth that no one wants to admit. Women, generally, are not as valuable to an employer as men.
There. I said it. I know, I know – You can’t believe I said it. I’m sure those of you who don’t know me just looked up to see who wrote this crazy blog post, to see if it was a woman or a man. I assure you, I’m all woman.
Here’s the thing. Female employees typically – Yes, I know that stereotyping is a problem for a lot of folks, but the facts are the facts. What I’m about to say here applies to the majority of the female workforce. – Typical female employees are also typically the primary caregivers in their homes. They’re responsible for their children and their parents. They are the ones who need “flex” time to handle school activites and emergencies, doctor visits for family members, nursing home issues, and veterinarian visits. They’re the ones who usually stay home with sick kids and tend to the needs of their elderly family members. They are the ones who need at least six weeks at a time off after every pregnancy and (eventually) if necessary, a hysterectomy. They are the ones who are most likely to need to suddenly quit and re-locate if their husband’s job is relocated.
Yes, I know, we must applaud them for being the valiant troopers that they are. But the truth is that while they’re taking care of everything but work – their male counterparts are taking up the slack for what they are not there to do. Employers know this.
So now, thanks to the “Fair Pay Act,” employers are going to be forced to make some tough decisions. Proponents of the bill are undoubtedly hoping that all the women in the workforce will soon be getting pay raises. I can pretty much assure you that won’t be happening. In this economy, when employers are laying off rather than hiring, not very many people are getting raises. Sorry, girls.
The employers cannot demand equal work for equal pay. Thanks to President Bill Clinton’s (D) Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employers are forced to keep jobs open for up to 12 weeks for employees who need time off for pregnancy, adoption, or to care for aging and ill parents. This applies to men and women, but women are the ones most likely to take advantage of the unpaid leave. Typically, they are more likely to be able to afford to do it, because they are receiving help from their spouse, or their ex-spouse in the form of alimony and/or child support. Yes, I know, I know – I can hear you feminazis screaming now – There are exceptions, and sometimes men…. Whatever! The facts are the facts. This law has benefited more women than men.
And employers are forced to hire a certain number of women. They dare not have a politically incorrect male to female ratio on their staffs, or they will be sued for violating affirmative action laws. Just ask the EEOC, a John F. Kennedy (D) project.
So what are employers to do? If they’re going to pay men and women equally, they will have to begin paying men less. They won’t necessarily be issuing pay cuts, but raises for men will be fewer and further between, and male new-hires will now start out at a lower salary.
This includes men who are still fulfilling the traditional role of primary breadwinner in their family. Undoubtedly, over time, this reduction in income will result in more women needing to leave their kids in daycare, and enter the workforce – except for the weeks at a time when they can’t be at work, because they need to be home with the newborn, a sick gradeschooler, or a terminally ill parent.
This also includes men who are just, well, men trying to make a living for themselves. Their lifetime earning potential just dropped. Sorry, guys.

Highlights of the Porkulus Bill

The stimulus, I mean porkulus, bill is a giant candy store for the Democrats. They have found the motherload of other people’s money and they can’t wait to spend it on their pet projects and special interest groups. Consider some of the provisions:
According to the Wall Street Journal:
- Only 12 cents out of every dollar is for growth stimuli (which doesn’t go into effect for years in some cases)
- $600 million is to buy themselves new “green” cars (even though they already spend $3 billion per year)
- $252 billion is for people who do nothing: $81 billion for Medicaid, $36 billion for unemployment benefits, $20 billion for food stamps, and $83 billion for people who don’t pay income tax
- $54 billion will go to “ineffective” government programs (reported by the Office of Management and Budget or the Government Accountability Office)
- $66 billion goes to the Department of Education
It gets worse. According to CNS News and Fox News:
- $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple including illegal aliens since social security numbers can’t be checked
- $335 million for STDs
- $4.19 billion in “neighborhood stabilization activities” such as ACORN
- $10 million for bike and walking trails
- $200 million for plug-in car stations
- $400 million for climate change research
- $600 million for grants for diesel emission reduction
- $650 million for “alternative energy technologies”
- $1.5 billion for construction of “green schools”
- $2.7 billion would go toward embryonic stem cell experimentation
- $75 million for smoking cessation
- $246 million over 11 years for investors in big budget movie projects
- $50 billion to the National Endowment for the Art
- $150 million for bees called “honey insurance”
- $20 million for “fish barriers”

How can we keep repeating ourselves without losing heart? What more is there to say? Telling the truth does not seem to work. The Big Lies, as well as the foul deeds, keep on happening. Expose one lie: A hundred more rise up in its place. Kill 100 Taliban and a hundred more take their places. We, who are still safely behind enemy lines, absolutely must keep documenting the hate speech and the terrorist atrocities; it is a profound form of resistance. One can tell that it is a form of warfare by the considerable toll it takes upon one’s body and soul.
How many times can one document the rise of the new anti-Semitism and the demonization of Israel? I have been doing so since 2001, both in a book (The New Anti-Semitism) and in hundreds, maybe thousands of articles, lectures, interviews. There are now hundreds of us who are also doing this heavy lifting: pundits, bloggers, distinguished authors, grassroots activists, retired folk. Some voices are outraged, many are maddeningly reasonable and consummately accurate. Still, the blood libels keep coming at us, without respite…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Caught on video: shameful cover-up of the crescent-topped Tower of Voices
January 30, 2009 by Flight 93 Blogburst
Background
For three years, the Flight 93 Memorial Project has been relentlessly dishonest, publicly denying damning facts like the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent while making excuses for these facts in private.
Example:
Before the 2007 Memorial Project meeting, Project Partner and Flight 93 family member Patrick White was asked by the press about claims that the giant Crescent of Embrace points to Mecca. He said that all of the claims about what is in the design had been thoroughly investigated and been found to be untrue and “preposterous.”In private conversation at the meeting itself, White acknowledged the Mecca-orientation of the crescent and made excuses for it, arguing that the almost-exact Mecca orientation cannot be seen as a tribute to Islam because the in-exactness of it would be “disrespectful to Islam.”
It is difficult enough to comprehend how Flight 93 family members can know that the giant crescent does indeed point almost exactly at Mecca, as critics are claiming, and still be okay with it. But White and the other Project Partners are going even further. They are knowingly covering up this damning information, and even flat lying to the public about it.
Whatever the explanation, this is what we are up against. Memorial Project participants know that the press will only cover our denunciations of the crescent design in those rare instances where we are able to mount a substantial public protest. Since the press never checks the facts, Project partners just issue whatever denials will get them through that news cycle, no matter how dishonest.
The above video
An example of this shameless misdirection was caught on video at last summer’s Memorial Project meeting. Alec Rawls, who made the trip to Somerset PA along with Tom Burnett Sr. (father of Flight 93 hero Tom Jr.), directed public attention to the crescent-topped Tower of Voices. A full-color advertisement in the Somerset newspaper showed the public what the Memorial Project and the press would not: that the Tower of Voices is topped with an Islamic shaped crescent, soaring in the sky above the symbolic lives of the 40 heroes:
At the meeting, Patrick White castigated Rawls for showing the meeting this artist’s rendering of the crescent topped tower, even as this very same graphic was on display by the Memorial Project itself just outside of the courtroom where the meeting was taking place.
White angrily denounced any suggestion that the approved plans for the memorial were indicative of what would actually be built, clearly implying that the crescent topped tower is no longer part of the planned memorial. Yet White had asserted exactly the opposite just three months earlier, when he and other family members involved with the Memorial Project declared that they would fight to build the design as approved:
Commission Chairman John Reynolds said he anticipated that people who opposed the memorial design would present a petition to throw it out.But family members yesterday said they will work tirelessly to have the monument completed according to the design by the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
“We’re standing up and saying, ‘Enough.’ We’re proponents of the winning design,” said Patrick White, whose cousin, Louis “Joey” Nacke II, died on Flight 93.
…
Mr. White said his group rejected any wholesale change to the design but allowed that it would have to be modified as it shifts from paper to reality.
However, Mr. White added, “They’re not going to be changed based upon the idea that someone sees crescents everywhere.”
This was shortly after our blogburst group started hitting hard on the crescent-topped tower, which the Project Partners are known to have been angry about. In effect, White was directly insisting that the Tower would not be changed just because people were upset about its crescent shape.
The press ignored White’s implied denial that the crescent shaped tower will be built
If the crescent shaped tower is actually to be removed, or changed to some other shape, that is a significant concession, and should have been widely reported, at least by the western Pennsylvania press, but it was not mentioned in any newspaper.
Has the blatant Islamic-Supremacist symbolism of the crescent-topped tower actually penetrated the thick skulls of Patrick White and his cohorts? That is doubtful. When they only faced blogosphere pressure over the crescent-topped tower, their response was angry insistence that the design would NOT be altered. The difference in August was that everyone they had to deal with face-to-face had just seen the crescent topped tower in the local newspaper. The difference was exposure.
Since the press went on to cover up what we worked so hard to expose, there is no reason to think that the Memorial Project will change the design at all. They managed to sneak their cover-up through one more news cycle, which is all they have ever cared about.
Not that any tweaking of the design could ever make it anything but a terrorist memorial mosque in any case. The Tower, for instance, will still be a year round accurate Islamic prayer-time sundial, regardless of any change to the Tower’s profile. (The Memorial Project knows about this too, and makes utterly dishonest excuses for it.)
Better stand up and fight America, or there WILL be a terrorist memorial mosque on the Flight 93 crash site.
Obama the Great Divider

Barack Obama claimed, “There’s not a liberal America and a conservative America – there’s the United States of America.“ It turns out it is a liberal America after all. After the Republican’s spanked him on the “porkulus” spending bill, he had to go it alone with the liberal Democrats. The great uniter couldn’t even muster one Republican vote because he was unwilling to compromise. In his first test of unity, he managed to divide.
Barack Obama once said, “A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, ‘Huh. It works. It makes sense.’” Mr. Obama, your legislation wasn’t music, there was no compromise, and it doesn’t make sense. It’s a spending bill. Instead of letting people have their own money to spend, you let government take that money from their pockets and let government decide how it will distribute the wealth under the guise of “stimulus.” You fell prey to the belief of self importance that the government knows how to spend people’s money better than they do. Your “sense” is nonsense.
Barack Obama, who claimed “change” as his mantra, has proven he can’t change a thing. He is the archetect of division–the great divider.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting some of the comments by the press after Republican’s refused to support the $825 billion pork bill (often calling it a stimulus package). Consider some of the comments from that story and others:
ABC Anchor Charles Gibson: The banner announcing the story called it a “Rescue Plan.” Then he went on to moan that “”not one Republican voted for it… turning a cold shoulder to the President’s appeal for bipartisan support.”
Reporter Jonathan Karl of ABC chided Republicans: “”So much for the President’s charm offensive. Today it was all partisan rancor and name-calling.”
Katie Couric of CBS whined: “the President went up to the Hill to personally appeal to Republicans already… what more can he do?”
CBS reporter Chip Reid commented: “the White House says this is a victory for the President, but certainly there is also some disappointment that he worked so hard to get bipartisan support and couldn’t get a single Republican vote.”
LA Times reporter Mark Barabak used this headline to dismiss Republican: “Republicans take a back seat.”
The Seattle-Post Intelligencer labeled their story about Republicans this way: “Loyal opposition: Still out of touch.”
It is interesting these same reporters never used this language when Bush was president.

I’d like to direct your attention to an interesting social network – or, rather – a network of networks that is attracting a lot of folks, including a significant number of conservatives online.
Ning.com is a site that allows you to form your own social network. I first learned about this a few months ago, and I have to admit that a just rolled my eyes, and thought, “Oh, great. That’s exactly what we need – ANOTHER social network! (Not!)”
But then I began to receive more and more invites to various networks on Ning, and I must admit that I am impressed with several of them. The best part of this new experience for me is that I’m meeting conservatives that I have not met before, addressing what has been a growing concern for me, as I’ve been wondering what good it does to join 57 social networks (that’s only a slight exaggeration) if I have exactly the same friends on every one?!
Ning networks allow members to have their own page, set the level of contact they want, add applications that interact with other social networks, customize their own “page” and blog, add rss feeds, and much more. I’ve found it to be very user-friendly.
Here are a few examples of conservative networks on Ning you might want to explore:
- Patriots Fro America – Constitutional Emergency (550+ Members – And look for your state group.)
- The Conservative Underground (Nearly 1,000 members in just about a week!)
- Take Control of Your Classroom (This one’s for anyone involved in education, including parents – 179 members and growing)
- Fair Tax Nation (750+ members)
- Smart Girl Politics (600+ members, and they let guys in, too, shhhh…)
- The #TCOT Network (If you’re active in #TCOT on Twitter, you’ll want to check out this network – there’s one at the national level, and several state-level networks developing.)
- The Patriotic Resistance
- Conservative Talk
To find more, use the “Search” feature on Ning.com to search for more groups, using terms like “conservative,”politics,” “education,” “Christian,” or whatever else interests you.
You’ll have to join each network individually, and they each have their own ambiance and “rules,” so be sure to read any instructions for new members. Once you’ve signed in to Ning.com, however, some things will stay with you through all of the networks, including your avatar, your e-mail address, your default settings, and any mutual friends you might have in each network.

Last week, Rush Limbaugh told Sean Hannity that if Obama continues to pursue an FDR-styled economic agenda, driving our nation right into the next depression, he hopes Obama fails.
I do, too.
The Democratic Congressional Committee is feigning outrage, and using the radio commentator’s comments to further their agenda to silence conservative talk radio, and the leftist “fairness doctrine” (a misnomer). They’re asking Democrats to “sign a petition,” and tell Rush Limbaugh what they think of his remarks about their Dear Leader.

I grew up believing that the “truth” of a matter really existed and that, in the words of the immortal John Keats, that “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,-that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” (See below for Keats’ Ode on a Grecian Urn).
Well, to some, Keats is just one more dead, white man. Today, the intellectual elite and their followers believe that truth does not exist; that there are many truths and isms; that everything is relative, Rashomon-like; that people have different points of view and that all such views are “equal.”
In addition, people have been taught to worship lies, paranoid projections, linguistic reversals, and photo shopped images. False accusations are mass produced and continue to pass for sweet truth in every language under the sun: Israelis are “Nazis” who killed 12 year-old Mohammed al-Dura in his father’s arms, perpetrated a “massacre” in Jenin, built an “Apartheid” Wall in the West Bank, are presiding over a “Holocaust” in Gaza…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
