Dom, your view of moderates simply is not born out by reality. Every election cycle the coveted “center” is sought by both sides. Polling consistently demonstrates that these people just cannot make up their minds. Interview after interviews has them, as Jenn pointed out, going to the polls still undecided. In most cases these people can’t make up their minds because they want to be perceived as open minded and reasonable when they are neither. They are tossed about by the wind with no real core convictions.

You may be an exception to this, I have no idea. It is common for anyone who holds a view to believe that others who claim the same position are like them when there is no real evidence to support that assumption. Perhaps you are falling into that trap. Or perhaps you are simply defending an indefensible position, who know?

The bottom line is, Jenn is right on the money. These people serve no one but themselves. They are more concerned with how they are perceived by others than by what is right or wrong. They certainly are not moved by what might be best for this country. They make me want to puke!

Good article Jenn.
Personally I have no use for moderates, especially now. Time to take a stand one side or the other…fish or cut bait as the saying goes.
With the daily erosion of our liberties and the downward spiral to socialism obama and the Dim’s are foisting on us, the country can ill afford a moderate stance among the people.

Moderates can make any excuse, produce any reason that makes their stance “feel” good, but the time is coming when a person either stands up as a man/woman or follow the rest of the sheeple to the slaughter.

Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way.

So, Dom, are you implying that those of us who consider ourselves to be conservative (or even, for that matter, those who consider themselves to be liberal) are “extremists” who are incapable of exercising common sense?

What is your definition of “extremist?” Does having principles and standing by them make me an “extremist?” Does serving Jesus Christ with my whole heart and soul (in word and deed) make me an “extremist?” Does voting my conscience make me an “extremist?” Does my belief that America and what she stands for is worth fighting for make me an “extremist?”

Yes, I understand that riding the fence is stressful at times – must be difficult, and pretty darn uncomfortable. But forgive me if I don’t feel sorry for “moderates,” for holding such a foolish position. And I find your assertion that by doing so, you’re maintaining a “stable social environment,” hillarious. We haven’t had a stable social environment in the USA since at least the 1960’s – or really since WWII.

I don’t think moderates are afraid of contradicting friends on either side of the fence so much as concerned that the means to any end must be just, and actually on the frontline of maintaining a stable social environment. Like anyone pushing a viewpoint, the moderate is not always a soft liberal, and a good moderate stands firm against extremism without siding with his own most extreme partisans – not easy or wishy-washy at all, even if a blustering immoderate, for want of a better word, does his best to marginalise that injection of common sense. You seem to think a moderate is just a floating voter, and in demeaning them as such I can’t see how you won’t be perceived as an ignorant bully, extremist or not.
