Marine Veteran Threatened with Fines, Towing by HOA for Patriotic Bumper Stickers

eyesoreWhen I first read this headline on Twitter, I envisioned an old clunker held together with bumper stickers. I thought perhaps this neighborhood homeowner’s association was trying to rid their neighborhood of an eyesore. Not that that would excuse their behavior – generally, in America, protection from eyesores is not considered a basic human right.

However, I was quite surprised to see that this gentleman’s late-model vehicle had just a tasteful smattering of small patriotic symbols on it. As the news reporter pointed out, other cars in this neighborhood had various political and social statement magnets and stickers as well.

So, why was this person targeted and threatened with having his fines and having his vehicle towed?

I have always heard that HOAs tend to be A-holes of one type or another.

I am enlisting in the Marines and I ship out in less then a month and this story really hit home, because my little Brother and his Roomate are both United States Marines, a Private First Class and a Lance Corporal. What really upsets me is that our HOA on several occasions has sent police to our Condo filing noise complaints when the loudest thing in the condo is the television, or more recently accusing both of them of using and selling illegal Drugs. It shows just how sad our country has become when Current and Retired members of our Armed forces are treated with so little respect.
