Back by popular demand. Here are the Go Fish Guys, who explain why it’s not “Happy Holidays.” Warning: This music will make you want to dance.

Lyrics

I remember when people used to say “Merry Christmas” to each other. EVERYBODY said “Merry Christmas…Hey, Merry Christmas to you, Mr. Lowenstein!” You know why? Because it wasn’t about a religion, it was about something as a culture we thought was so valuable, that we all would do it together even if I disagreed with the religion behind it because it was good for ALL of us instead of just me. But what do people say now…”Happy Holidays.” See I just say “Happy Holidays,” because I don’t want to say “Christmas,” because you don’t believe in Christmas, because I don’t want to offend you because….

It’s called Christmas!

Well I went to the coffee shop to get myself a Mocha,
The lady at the counter said “Happy holidays!”
I said, “Thanks lady, I am pretty happy,
But there’s only one holiday that makes me feel that way.”

It’s called Christmas, what more can I say?
It’s about the birth of Christ and you can’t take that away.
You can call it something else, but that’s not what it will be.
It’s called Christmas with a capital “C.”

God’s got a law and we pretty much destroyed it.
We’re gonna get judged, there’s no way to avoid it.
But Jesus came down to take the punishment for me.
He did it for you too, so maybe you can see.

Why It’s called Christmas, what more can I say?
It’s about the birth of Christ and you can’t take that away.
You can call it something else, but that’s not what it will be.
It’s called Christmas with a capital “C.”

It’s called Christmas!

Oh, yes we want to say happy holidays because we don’t want to leave anybody out. Really, how come there’s a ton of holidays in February but no one says happy holidays then? They say what it is, “Happy Valentines Day…OOH do you believe in love?”

It’s called Christmas!

But no body wants to say “Christmas,” everything but Christmas, why I know why, you do too, it’s because it’s got Christ in it and after thousands of years he’s still intimidating people, you see when a religious figure says “I am the way” people don’t wanna hear it.

It’s called Christmas!

I say you gotta say merry Christmas ’cause it is! and if you don’t believe in it fine, but I got a flash for you, Christianity happens to be the religious heritage of my country whether you like it or not.

It’s called Christmas!

So if you’re not Christian or you don’t like it, and you don’t want Christmas to be celebrated, well then God Bless You, but if you’re think you’re gonna stop me from sayin’ it because it offends you, I gotta flash for you. Put a helmet on, ’cause it’s my country too.

It’s called Christmas, what more can I say?
It’s about the birth of Christ and you can’t take that away.
You can call it something else, but that’s not what it will be.
It’s called Christmas with a capital “C”!

  9. Terry Ortman says:

Thanks, with a capital “T”. For an over 60 it’s not my kind of music, but the message is universal. I will be rolling the lyrics through my head while shopping and I hear “Happy Holidays” – I will need to respond!

  10. Jenn Sierra says:

It is rather catchy, isn’t it Terry? :-) Welcome to FHK!

  11. Paterik Tobias says:

Finally someone has the courage to defy congress’s attempts to circumvent the intent if not the complete first amendment! Stand up and be counted. Stand up for the Reason For The Season!

  12. I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve finally heard an Xmas song worse than What Can You Get A Wookie For Christmas? Thanks a lot, jerks. Thanks a lot.

  13. Jenn Sierra says:

    You’re welcome, Melitaea. Merry Christmas.

  14. Jacque says:

would like to know who the comedian in the song is? love the song. about time someone stands up for Christians. Merry Christ-mas melitaea.

  15. Jenn Sierra Jenn Sierra says:

Hi, Jacque, and welcome to FHK! These are the Go Fish Guys – go check out their website, at: http://gofishguys.com. They’re awesome.

  16. Tim Brown says:

This is ridiculous BS. I’ll be 50 in a few weeks and I’ve heard “happy holidays” all my life! I mean come on, what about Thanksgiving? Never mind Hanukkah, Kwanzaa (yes, people really do celebrate it ;-) The Equinox and New years? The “reason for the season” is that early Roman Christians couldn’t get pagans to stop celebrating the Festival of Sol Invictus or the Equinox/ New year. Sorry kids but there is exactly zero evidence for christ being born on dec.25th! And the xmas tree? Pure Germanic Pagan tradition! And since I used it, “X-mas” is NOT a commie liberal plot against christ, it was an early symbol used BY CHRISTIANS! ! You all desperately need to get over yourselves and somehow get lives . . .

  17. Cozment says:

Mr. Brown and Melitaea, I am sorry for you and can only say I will pray for you for it is obvious you just don’t get it and you certainly don’t have it. And sadly, you won’t even understand what I’m talking about.

  18. Mrs. Pam Elkas says:

I’m a 65 year old grandmother with 3 grandchildren. We ALL love this song in my family. I sent this song to ALL on my E-mail list and heard great responses from my E-mail family and friends of this song.
It is about time someone speaks out about this subject:
    Merry Christmas verses Happy Holiday.
IF you really listen to the words, this song sends a message, that should have never HAD to be sent.
Dose the government want to also get rid of the song: “I’ll be home for Christmas?” as well as other songs from the past with the word: Christmas?
GREAT JOB, Go Fish Guys. Many Wishes for a Very Merry Christmas to ALL.
    Pam

  19. shirley says:

This should be the #1 song for the Christmas season. Sure wish I could have forwarded it to friends, but every time I entered the “code letters” I got different message as to why it couldn’t be sent. I know the addresses I gave were valid – so disappointed!

  20. Robert Weber says:

Thanks Guys, the message is right I on. As for those of you who dis agree, better check your American histor. The magority of our founding fathers would be appalled at the current condition of the restrictions on the exercising of religious freedoms that the supreme court has made rulings on. If you read any of their writings at all you would see that the goverment we have today is so far left of center to their beliefs that it no where even resembles what they had a the divine inspiration for our Blessed land. And to mister brown I will be 54 soon and I remember a day when Merry Christmas was the norm not happy holidays. I also remember when we had enough respect for Sunday as to restrict business’s to be closed on that day. THANKS AGAIN GUYS LOVED THE MESSAGE AND THE MUSIC. Robert Weber

  21. Ryan says:

This song is catchy, has a good meaning, AND is just plain old good musi . I have sent this song by E-mail to over 10 people!!

KEEP IT ALIVE PASS IT ON

  22. Barbara says:

I love this song! I have emailed the link to this website many times for my friends and family to listen to the song. I also, ordered CD’s from the Go Fish Guys. It is about the birth of Christ and you can’t take that away. It was SO refreshing to hear the truth and logic stated with such a rhythmic tune. Christmas has past but “the beat goes on”. I like to listen to the song when the negative people try to get me down. It makes me smile.
