Though running for the Republican nomination, Ron Paul could possibly get the Libertarian and Constitution Party nominations. The by-laws of the two smaller parties appear to allow Ron Paul to become, potentially, the first fusion candidate in history.
If Ron Paul were to lock up the Republican nomination on Super Tuesday in early March, he could also seek the two smaller parties — Libertarian and Constitution. Time does not appear to be an issue. The Libertarian convention is on Memorial Day weekend, May 22-26, 2008 while the Constitution convention is in April 2008. The Republican Convention is September 1-8, 2008. Technically, he could be nominated and win all three party nominations.
Interestingly, the Constitution and Libertarian Party members are both supportive of Ron Paul. He does not fair as well among Republicans, however. Thus, the likelihood of a triple nomination is rare. It would be a remarkable and historical event should that happen. Moreover, it makes for an intriguing discussion.
