I recently came across Saxby Chambliss’ re-election site on the internet and I was pleasantly surprised at how innovative it was using technology. We promote a more technological focus by Conservative politicians.
The site opens with an eye catching non-framed, free standing, 3-D Chambliss introducing himself and the site. Once you enter, you can click on any of the issue buttons and get his perspectives in a nicely developed video format. Unfortunately, from there it gets rather standard–articles, photos, contributions page, and volunteer page–none of which allow much interactivity.
His introduction to the site does claim it will be more innovative in the future as more bells and whistles are added. From a technological perspective, Chambliss could benefit from a more networked and interactive Web 2.0 approach including:
- Wiki
- Video sharing
- Connections to photo sharing sites (i.e., Flicker, PhotoBucket, etc.)
- Blog with comments section
- Connections to social networks (MySpace, FaceBook, etc.)
- Networking sites (i.e., MeetUp, Eventful, Linkedin, etc.)
The goal should be to connect with people and allow others to network. I think Saxby Chambliss has started well but needs to take it one step further. Good luck in the election Senator.
