Women and their Influence in Politics (Part 3)

Why should marriage change the way a woman votes? As far as I know I can find no research on the subject. There are plenty of supposition; that their priorities change, that they tend to follow their spouses political beliefs, etc.

Conservatives keep using the term “family values”, does this phrase exclude single women? It seems it does. Single women are, in my opinion, more interested in their future than many give them credit for. It doesn’t matter if they fall into categories of never married or divorced, they worry for the future. And like most people they worry about finances. What are the differences between Conservative and Liberal fiscal platforms?

From Wikipedia:

Fiscal conservatism is the economic philosophy of prudence in government spending and debt. Edmund Burke, in his ‘Reflections on the Revolution in France’, articulated its principles:

…[I]t is to the property of the citizen, and not to the demands of the creditor of the state, that the first and original faith of civil society is pledged. The claim of the citizen is prior in time, paramount in title, superior in equity. The fortunes of individuals, whether possessed by acquisition or by descent or in virtue of a participation in the goods of some community, were no part of the creditor’s security, expressed or implied…[T]he public, whether represented by a monarch or by a senate, can pledge nothing but the public estate; and it can have no public estate except in what it derives from a just and proportioned imposition upon the citizens at large.

In other words, a government does not have the right to run up large debts and then throw the burden on the taxpayer; the taxpayers’ right not to be taxed oppressively takes precedence even over paying back debts a government may have imprudently undertaken.

The Liberal viewpoint, again from Wikipedia:

Liberals generally seek a balanced and flexible “mixed economy” occupying that middle ground between capitalism and socialism whose viability is generally denied by both capitalists and socialists. In general liberalism is anti-socialist, when socialism means state ownership of the basic means of production and distribution, because American liberals doubt that bases for political opposition and freedom can survive when all power is vested in the state. Some American liberals also doubt the feasibility of administering a socialist system. In line with the general pragmatic, empirical basis of liberalism, American liberal philosophy embraces the idea that if substantial abundance and equality of opportunity can be achieved through a system of mixed enterprise, then there is no need for a rigid and oppressive bureaucracy.

After reading the above, if you are not confused, you are in the minority. The Democratic Party, the supposed party of liberals, continually pushes for more Federal Government control. They favor more controls and stricter requirements on small businesses forcing more and more small business owners, farmers, and self employed individuals into failure. Like the labor unions that they support they prefer to make laws that are written to be broken. They want to confuse the issues so that only the judicial system and the lawyers can understand it. The self-employed and the employer cannot do business without keeping a lawyer or two on retainer to interpret the law.

Only the larger companies can afford to survive. Democrats portray themselves as the anti-rich party, but a 2004 study by the Pew Research Center identified 19% of Americans as liberal. According to the study, liberals were the most affluent and educated ideological demographic. Of those who identified as liberal, 49% were college graduates and 41% had household incomes exceeding $75,000, compared to 27% and 28% as the national average, respectively.

A major reason for this is the liberals in academia. A report by the Washington Post found that Liberalism also remains the dominant political ideology in academia, with 72% of full-time faculty identifying as liberal in a 2004 study. Educators have always molded the minds of our youth, but now they are pushing a political agenda. Women are more educated today. Is it possible that the single women of today are just sheep? Are single women liberal because they believe or because they were indoctrinated?

What can the conservatives do to reach out to single women?
