Election 2008: The Next President (An editorial in 3 parts)

(Part 1 of 3)

buttons08_1.jpgWe are in the trajectory of another Presidential election year, and the rhetoric is getting hot. With the nation polarized on many issues – though not nearly so much as just six months ago when Iraq was looking bleak and Bush was looking cooked – there is much focus on each and every word, wink and nod in the cornucopia of debates. And with Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton at one point refusing even to commit to a yes-or-no answer on whether she concurred with her own New York State governor over his plan to grant drivers’ licenses to illegal aliens, the voters are getting a genuine taste of the candidates beyond the beauty-pageant aspect of the coming race.

We are being told that 2008 is a “watershed” year, when the nation will decide whether to go this way or that on many critical issues, and indeed that is true. To add to the volatility, it appears that after 8 years of a Republican in the White House, along with the hard-leftward drift of the Democrats, the media are pressing for change more than ever, and will do everything possible to obscure the true positions of the Democrat candidates. When a very liberal Illinois Senator Barack Obama won’t talk specifics, but starts talking flowery about bringing the nation together in one big happy family, it’s time to pull out the nonsense meter and take a true reading of his intentions rather than allowing the media to gloss over his comments with swooning reviews of his style. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketIn the founding of this great nation, our forefathers faced trials that would have undermined a people less determined, less strong, less creative and less resilient. And in pursuing the cause of freedom, which repeatedly appeared far out of reach, our wise Founders kept in their hearts the promise of a Divine Providence watching over our worthy experiment.

Today in 2007, in the 226th year since we officially defeated the juggernaut called Britain, we can reflect on a victory that only can be seen as the work of a Great Creator determined to establish a good and just nation for all mankind, a place where the huddled masses indeed can breathe the air of freedom. The 16% Factor

rural In a recent televised forum on rural issues, it was stated that only 16% of the American population lives in “rural” areas while only one-tenth of 1% of all private philanthropy ends up going there. This revelation was startling, but also could be wholly expected. Because for most Americans, rural people barely figure any longer into our social equations since increasing numbers in our suburbs and our cities have no personal connection whatsoever with rural America except as the folks-out-there who we meet only on one of our getaways from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

From Professional to Malicious

Media cameras recently caught a very telling “wink” during a Q&A period with presidential hopeful Hillary (last name not needed, kind of like Madonna). The “wink” was given by a questioner to a fellow audience member to indicate that the questioner successfully had asked a certain question that intentionally had been “planted” by the Clinton campaign, this one about… yawn… ‘global warming’ — as if we hadn’t hear enough ad nauseum on the subject.

hillwink.gifWhile Hillary later was shocked… yes shocked!… about the planted question and expressed plausible deniability of her knowledge of the trick, the usually pliable media offered a surprising bit of push-back about the incident. But since it was a Democrat that was involved, and since it still is just primary season, they allowed the tempest to blow over because it obviously was just some low-level operative who had planted the question, and obviously he/she had been fired over this horrible stain on the pristine record of Democrats in political campaigns. Investigate the Oil Companies?… or the Democrats?

“Kerry: Pump Prices Unfair” screams a headline in the Berkshire (County, Massachusetts) Eagle, describing how our elite United State Senator John Kerry has received a “letter” from a small-town Massachusetts mayor describing the difficulties faced by his constituents over rising gasoline prices.

In response to the “letter” from North Adams mayor John Barrett, Kerry wrote to Federal Trade Commission chairwoman Deborah Majoras, “As escalating gas prices place a tremendous burden on households and businesses, we must ensure that our citizens are not subject to unfair prices,”

“I respectfully request that you initiate an investigation of reported gasoline price gouging in the western part of the state.” Continue Reading »

Hurricanes, Tornados, Fires… and Cheap Shots – Part 2

Boxer, Sebelius, Reid and Halter are the new face of the far-left Democrat party. They appear to be rational people to those who might be casually observing, but they in fact are calculating every word and saying anything at all to advance their politics with no regard whatsoever for the truth. Worse they will backtrack on a dime as if absolutely nothing is wrong with this picture.

The Democrats have wandered far from their convictions and have become utterly obsessed with the politics of personal and political destruction and blame. It is like a reflex action with them. After falling into a bizarre pattern of blaming Bush for everything and seeing success at the polls, you can see the Democrat party tumbling further into this nutty psychosis, a fall that started in the 1960s with too many drugs and too much propaganda, both of which were swallowed in quantity. Hurricanes, Tornados, Fires… and Cheap Shots – Part 1

In a recent TV documentary about New Orleans, an 18th century lithograph showed a rustic settlement surrounded by levees. The narrator explained that the people knew from the very start that New Orleans was eternally susceptible to terminal flooding.

Yet, when Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast in 2005 and when New Orleans’ levees finally were catastrophically breached on August 29 of that year after 300 years of warnings, chaos ensued as if nobody ever had been alerted. The media and their Democrat friends started finger-pointing fast and furious, the prime targets being President Bush, the Republican Party and any other conservative figure who could be tied to the disaster. Or rather ABU – Anybody But Us, the people of New Orleans. Continue Reading »
