Consider ten men going out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. Assume every person drank the same amount.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
FOX News Promotes Stripping

I just saw an interview on FOX News that was unbelievable. A young woman who was a former financial analyst was being interviewed about her new career as a stripper. What was particularly emphasized was how much money she was making and how well she was treated. The clear message was that stripping is a viable option for young women. I was appalled.
A Lesson In Economics
I read a lot of articles and comments about the varying cost of things around the world and I am amazed at the lack of understanding by supposedly educated Americans. I suppose in part it is because I have traveled and lived around the world but mostly I accredit my understanding of finances to some great advice from my grandmother.
She taught me early that the cost of an item should not be measured in dollars and cents, but it should be measured by what you have to expend for that item.
