Police in a Phoenix suburb are looking for a father suspected of running down his daughter because she was becoming too “Westernized” and was not living according to their traditional Iraqi values.
Police say 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki of Glendale allegedly ran his daughter down Tuesday at an Arizona Department of Economic Security parking lot in Peoria.
Nonie Darwish Under Fire Today

Not again. Ah, yes again and again until we have won this war of ideas.
Nonie Darwish, the warmest, sanest, least prejudiced Palestinian/Egyptian whom I know, has both been attacked and has not been defended by the administrative elite at the Whittier College Law School where she is scheduled to speak later today. According to Steven Emerson, the Muslim Student Association on campus defamed Darwish and tried to stop or at least delay her presentation.
Not surprising. They specialize in such demonization and censorship campaigns. Darwish pleads the case of Muslim women whose human rights are seriously violated by shariah law. But the academic administrators at Whittier Law School have not strongly defended her right to speak, nor have they praised her work. This is unforgivable; according to Emerson, many happen to be women who are also feminists.
Alas, this is also not surprising. I wrote an entire book about this phenomenon: The Death of Feminism. What’s Next in the Struggle for Women’s Freedom…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Hijab (The Headscarf) – Yes; The Burqa – No
September 15, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler

Banning the burqa in the West might be one way to ban Islamist fundamentalism and the barbaric subordination of girls and women in certain immigrant communities. For this reason, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and French Minister Fadela Amara have again called for this ban. Earlier today, French immigration Minister, Eric Besson, called the burqa “debased.”
I would hope that the French take their argument further. In the past, they have mainly cited security concerns: Burqa wearing women might be “racially” attacked or burqa wearers themselves might be terrorists or criminals who are planning to attack or rob civilians.
I would hope that the French also argue for such a ban on women’s rights/human rights grounds, as I have already proposed. Thus, clothing which completely covers the face and head in a way which muffles speech, hearing, and vision, which limits or prevents all human communication and identification, and which, in effect, functions like an isolation chamber is, by definition, a violation of human rights…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Obama’s War

Why is Obama willing to commit more military into Afghanistan? Is he really trying to catch Bin Laden? Why would Obama do something that is so out of character for him?
We have already seen how new restrictions and the new rules of engagement not only put our soldiers at greater risk but also gets them killed.
We know that Obama empathizes with the terrorists of 9-11. We know that he has bowed subserviently to the Saudi King, purveyor and financier of radical Islam.
We see Obama slash the Defense budget that includes items required for the protection of military personnel. We see further escalation and Iranian arms being used by the enemy in Afghanistan without comment from the White House. We see Russia, North Korea, Venezuela and Iran banding together to stymie us in Afghanistan. Perhaps their aim is to suck us dry just like what happened to the old USSR when it got mired in Afghanistan, but what is Obama’s plan.
What would he have to gain? Why would Obama send soldiers, young patriots, mostly conservatives, primarily Republican-leaning in their politics, to their deaths without every advantage that this Nation could give them?

From Acts17Apologetics:
This is a video of Nabeel Qureshi and David Wood asking questions at Arabfest, Dearborn. The date is June 21st, 2009. There was a booth at the festival which had a banner titled “Islam: Got Questions? Get Answers.” From their table, we picked up a pamphlet claiming that Islam promotes peace. We noticed that it was full of poor logic and errors, so we decided to make a video refuting it. We went to the booth that gave us the pamphlet to give them the opportunity to defend their claims. Security, however, stepped in and forced us to turn off our camera.
We left the booth, received advice from police, and found out that the actions of the security guards were illegal. We went back to the booth to record a potential answer again. Realizing that the Muslims present had no answer, we left.
When we came outside, we were asked some questions by two young men, who had been sent by security to entrap us. While we responded to them, festival security started assaulting us, as you will see in this video. The conclusion of this video is a mob of festival security attacking our cameras, pushing us back, kicking our legs, and lying to the police.
We ask you, is it a coincidence that the city with the highest percentage of Muslims in the United States is the city where Christianity is not allowed to be represented (let alone preached) on a public sidewalk? Is it coincidence that in this city, people will say “No way!” when we say “This is the United States of America”?
Is this what will happen when Islam takes over the United States?

July 1914, July 1939 – July 2009?
July 14, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler

Gone are the cold and dreary rains of June. Now, all is disarmingly sunny and green on the east coast. The July weather is hot during the day, blessedly cool and sweet in the evening. We stroll languidly down leafy city streets, walk dogs, slowly lick ice cream, read at outdoor cafes. People in wheelchairs and on walkers and canes have made it through another overly long winter and are out gazing in wonder at the world as they once knew it. The shore (endless ocean blue, dotted with swimmers and boats), the mountains (swollen running rivers, sheer-drop waterfalls, velvet emerald hills), even the suburbs are radiant, God-given.
Why does all this peace-and-calm remind me, ever so slightly, of Europe in early July of 1914 or July of 1939? Not everyone is touched by war, some smartly dressed people are always dancing or feasting as other people are being murdered (we have all seen the documentary footage of the really good time some people were having while others were going up in smoke at Auschwitz or Treblinka. I was not starving while Hutus slaughtered Tutsis in Rwanda — were you?)…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Death to the Turbans, No More Stoning: Free Iran #IranElection
July 13, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler

Defiantly, bravely, they are marching for their freedom in the streets of Teheran. The mullahs’ men are gassing, beating, shooting and jailing them.
The people are chanting: “Death to the turbans,” “Down with the dictator,” “We want democracy.” The demonstrators are risking their very lives in order to tell the world the truth about Iran: that it is one gigantic prison in which elections are rigged, children are sacrificed to clear landmines from the fields, and women, intellectuals, and homosexuals are routinely jailed and murdered by corrupt dictators who sponsor terrorism abroad.
We tell children that if they “tell the truth, they will be safe.” But this is a lie. Truth tellers invariably get into trouble. Even in the West, whistleblowers get harassed, maligned, isolated, fired. Those who expose family “secrets” are treated as evil or crazy and are often driven out of the family. The evil-doers are protected, those who expose them are punished. This seems to be a fairly universal phenomenon…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Should America Ban the Burqa?
July 2, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler
Earlier today, Muslims demonstrated in Antwerp to oppose the banning of headscarves in two schools–and the new Swedish head of the European Union, Justice Minister Beatrice Ask, stated that the “27 member European Union must not dictate an Islamic dress code…(that) the European Union is a union of freedom.” As my readers know, yesterday, al-Qaeda threatened France because President Sarkozy had called for a ban on the burqa.
Clearly, this is a major issue in Europe where anywhere from 30-50 million Muslims live. Paradoxically, various European countries have banned or restricted the far less restrictive headscarf (hijab) in schools, universities, and courtrooms–but have not yet restricted the far more smothering burqa. Perhaps hijab is seen as the “nose of the camel,” a garment which, if allowed, will lead Europe right down the slippery slope to more oppressively restricted clothing for Muslim-European women.
Could this issue arise in America with its much smaller Muslim population? Is this an issue we must address?

The High Cost of Western Idealism: Saving Schoolgirls From Being Poison-Gassed in Afghanistan and Honor-Murdered in Sweden.
May 13, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler
Yesterday in Charikar, Afghanistan, for the second time in two weeks, 50 innocent schoolgirls were poison-gassed at school and had to be hospitalized. Many girls lost consciousness and collapsed. Some girls were dizzy, nauseous, and threw up. Amazingly, Noor Jahan, a ninth grader at the Ura Jalili Girls High School said:
“I am pretty sure whoever has done this is against education for girls, but I strongly ask the parents not to be discouraged by such brutal action and send their children to school.”
Such attacks on Afghan girls schools have escalated within the past year. However, this barbaric, Taliban mentality is alive and well among some Afghan immigrants in the West. The Afghan-Canadian brother, Hasibullah Sadiqi, who killed his sister and her fiancée in Ottawa and who is now standing trial, came to Canada when he was five months old. Nevertheless, Hasibullah enacted ancient tribal, (or radically Islamic codes), despite the fact that he had been living in the West for more than twenty one years…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Is Jenin a Hotbed of “Moderates”? Ask Wafa Younis, Hero and Humanitarian.
March 30, 2009 by Phyllis Chesler

They had not engaged in any rock or bomb throwing nor had they marched with ominously covered faces chanting “Death to the Jews, Death to America.” Instead, some time last week, thirteen young Palestinians, ages 11-18, members of the “Strings of Freedom” orchestra, conducted by Wafa Younis, played music for elderly Jewish Holocaust survivors in Holon. They came armed, not with guns, but with musical instruments.
By yesterday, Palestinian authorities on the allegedly “moderate” West Bank, in the Jenin Refugee camp, had disbanded the orchestra and accused Wafa Younis of inappropriately involving the children in a dangerous “political issue.”
Younis is an Israeli Arab. This means that she is also a “Palestinian,” but, like 1. 2 million other such “Palestinians,” she is an Israeli citizen who is not voluntarily leaving Israel for either the West Bank or Gaza. For her “crime,” Younis was barred from the refugee camp. The apartment where she conducted her little orchestra is now boarded up…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
Our Eternal Struggle

Last month, I gave a speech at Temple Judea in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. I described my interaction with the audience HERE. The Jewish Press has just published a part of the actual speech which I would now like to share with my PJM readers.
Who would ever have believed that Jews would be in such danger again? That Israel and Zionism would become such dirty words in the world, despised by western intellectuals and Islamist mobs alike?
Who would ever have predicted that the United Nations would remain ineffective in all things except one: the legitimization of Jew-hatred? And that so many members of international human rights organizations and the mainstream western media would join Muslim leaders to accuse Israel of running an apartheid Nazi state bent on genocide?
Who would ever have thought that the Islamic jihad against Jews, which long preceded the establishment of the state of Israel, would still be going strong – a jihad that began during Muhammad’s reign when he slaughtered the Jewish tribes of Arabia?
Who would ever have suggested that the largest refugee story in the Middle East – 750,000-800,000 Jews expelled from Arab countries – would be forgotten and replaced with a Palestinian-only persecution narrative that would seize the imagination of the world? That Israel, which absorbed its refugees at its own expense, would be demonized and that Palestinian leaders, including terrorists who devote themselves to the destruction of Israel, would be glamorized as righteous and noble victims?
Who would ever have dreamed that Israel would be condemned for trying to defend its civilians? Or that Israel would reap hatred for exercising restraint in its treatment of Palestinian civilians? Or that Israel’s terrorist enemies would be praised for hiding behind their own women and children or would themselves be counted as civilians (even as they fire rockets at Israel) because they craftily choose to dress as such?
Who would ever have imagined that such Big Lies would be championed by western intellectuals, academics, journalists, students – not a few of them Jews and even Israelis?
Orwell would laugh. Or cry…Continue reading on The Jewish Press >>
There Is No Such Thing as ‘Moderate’ Islam.” Continued Conversations with Nonie Darwish.

I am proud to count the very brave but equally warm, Nonie Darwish, as a friend and colleague. I read her new book, Cruel and Usual Punishment. The Terrifying Global Implications of Sharia Law,
before it was published by Thomas Nelson on Jan. 6, 2009. The back cover of her book bears an endorsement by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Hasan Mahmud, and by me as well.
Nonie was born in Gaza when it was under Egyptian control and she grew up in Cairo. She is married, lives in southern California and has three grown children (well–one is still a teenager). She is the founder of Arabs for Israel. She is also the author of a previous book: Now They Call me Infidel. Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror. Nonie is no longer a practicing Muslim. Her new book is a landmark event whose timeliness is beyond compare. No American can afford NOT to read this book. Sharia law, which governs every area of Muslim life, is now increasingly infiltrating the West. Europe may be lost, America is now under siege. With profound bravery, Darwish documents the history and nature of Sharia law which is invariably mis-represented and mis-understood, both by its followers and by “infidels.” In her words, “the non-Muslim world must have no illusions.” She also describes the phenomenon of extreme religiosity among Muslim today, and analyzes it in feminist as well as jihadic terms…Continue reading on Chesler Chronicles >>
